Brutu timer. Stay focused or burn your money

Problem

There are plenty of effective tools for blocking distracting websites on Mac, like Freedom or SelfControl. However, due to system limitations, they don't work well on iOS.

Problem

Brutu is an iOS timer that uses money to help people stay away from addictive apps. Users can stake any amount and start a timer. While the timer is on, they cannot quit the app. If they go to the home screen or switch to other apps, they will be charged. However, while the timer is running, users can still receive phone calls or access the notification center. A user can also set a "break," which is the amount of time they are allowed to use the phone. In that case, when a user leaves the app, they will receive a notification showing the amount of time left. Brutu's goal is to reclaim focus from addictive apps. It's surprising how an aversion to losing even small amounts of money can make someone more productive.

Role

The Brutu app originated from my idea. I handled all aspects of its UI, UX, strategy, and visual design. I collaborated with Max Kant, a full-stack developer, to launch the app on the App Store. For design and prototyping, I utilized Figma, and I also employed Xcode to support the front-end development.
